No, you don’t have to install anything. Everything is implemented as a web-service. You can configure filterize on this web-site. After configuration, everything is done in the background.

Yes, you can use every application which interacts with Evernote. So you can use your native desktop app, your apps on your mobile device and also every web-service that creates or changes notes in your Evernote account.

Whenever you create or change a note on any device, filterize gets a notification (called a webhook) from evernote. After receiving this notification, the filterize web-service will process the new or changed note in the background.

Rate Limits

Evernote limits the number of accesses for third party-applications. Once this limit is reached, no further changes or synchronizations are possible until the rate limit is gone. For our service, this means that no filters can apply, and no changes in Evernote’s notebooks and tags are synchronized to filterize. These limitations can occur if you update a lot of notes within a short period of time.

In case of active rate limitation, we queue all interactions with Evernote so that they will be processed when the rate limit has gone. In this case your changes are not lost, but only delayed.

Normally, Evernote calculates the limits on an hourly basis. So if you have a lot of changes, they will be delayed maybe until the next hour.


After the 30 Day free premium trial, your account will be moved into the free basic plan if you did not activate premium.

In the free basic plan, only the first three active filters will be applied to your changed notes. Calendar export and tag hierarchy are disabled for this plan. All your configuration is kept. So if you change back to premium, all features will be activated again with the stored configuration.

Security & Privacy

To keep running the service we have to store some data about your account on our servers. Here is a list of all the data we store:

  • An access token to your Evernote account (we need this to to process all of our features, and it is required to access your account)
  • Id, name and parent id for your tags (we need this to allow you to configure the filters and hierarchies)
  • Id, name and stack of your notebooks (we need this to allow you to configure the filters and calendars)
  • Keywords, author and associated tag- and notebook-ids (we need this to suggest automations for you)
  • Title of the processed notes (we use this for logging purposes, so you can see what happens with your account)
  • All the things you configure on our service

Additionally, to all stored data, we load the note content (not the attachments) from Evernote, to check for note size, attachment conditions and todo checkboxes for the filters. The data is only used while processing the filters.

We do not store or process credit card data on our server. The complete payment process is done by our payment provider, Braintree Payment, PayPal.

We encrypt everything on the transport between you, Evernote, and our server. For this transport we use state of the art SSL/TLS encryption. All stored data will is encrypted with AES-256.

We do not store your Evernote account credentials, so nobody can steal your password. In the unlikely case of an intrusion into our server, you can revoke access to your Evernote account on the Evernote website. Based on the Evernote access limitations, an intruder could not permanently damage your account.
